ABOUT THE MAIN PRESENTATION AND CLASS WITH Q&A:
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been getting a lot of media attention lately. Overall, AI is developing so rapidly that what you see and how you interact online is changing exponentially. Advancements like Chat GPT-4, DALL-E 2, self-driving cars, and natural language processing are transforming the AI landscape. Because genealogy is a subject that is highly dependent on information, come and learn about how and why AI is impacting genealogy from the implantation of handwriting recognition to indexing and beyond.

10:00-10:30 am MDT:  ROBERT RAYMOND on FAMILYSEARCH FAMILY TREE FOR INFLUENCERS
10:30 - 23 Noon MDT:  ROBERT RAYMOND on FAMILYSEARCH RECORD SEARCH TIPS AND TRICKS

ABOUT ROBERT RAYMOND:
Robert Raymond is a Deputy to FamilySearch Chief Genealogical Officer, David Rencher. He is a frequent presenter at national, regional, and local conferences. He was a director of the National Genealogical Society from 2012 to 2018. Robert is a genealogist and technologist with over 40 years of experience in technology and genealogy. He holds over a dozen patents (inventions, not land ;-) ) and earned a master's degree in electrical engineering from Brigham Young University where he was honored as a Kimball Scholar. He was a member of the Eta Kappa Nu Electrical Engineering Honor Society, and the Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society.

ABOUT THE MAIN PRESENTATION 10:00-10:30 am MDT:
FAMILYSEARCH FAMILY TREE FOR INFLUENCERS
FamilySearch Family Tree is an important undertaking. You are building something bigger than yourself. While genealogists within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints regularly use FamilySearch Family Tree, non-genealogists in the Church and genealogists outside the Church do not. As an influencer, you might wish you could convince more knowledgeable genealogists to use the Tree more often (and less knowledgeable genealogists to use it less)!  Influencers need a new mindset. See contributions by other influential genealogists and learn how they dissuade unwanted changes. Learn some focus areas for your time and how to apply genealogical standards.

ABOUT THE CLASS:
FAMILYSEARCH RECORD SEARCH TIPS AND TRICKS
This presentation covers searching historical record collections. Whether you are a new searcher or an accomplished researcher, this presentation has something for you. Learn foundational tips and power-user features. When you understand what is happening under the covers, you are in a better position to guide the search engine. If search results have ever left you scratching your head, this presentation will move you ahead, increasing your ability to find the most elusive records.

11:10-12 noon MDT, PEGGY CLEMENS LAURITZEN, AG, FOGS, on MEMORY KEEPERS

ABOUT THE MAIN PRESENTATION:
COMMUNITY RESEARCH USING THE NATIONAL RIGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES AND THE HISTORICAL MARKER DATABASE
Two genealogists began a conversation over lunch and ideas began to tumble around as they approached a common research dilemma from two different angles. It wasn't long before they discovered these two valuable sites that led to valuable discoveries in their research. Those metal signs you see on old buildings or the metal historic markers by the side of the road may offer clues to the lives of your ancestors.

ABOUT PEGGY CLEMENS LAURITZEN, AG, FOGS:
PEGGY CLEMENS LAURITZEN has been an Accredited Genealogist (AG) for nearly twenty-five years, and has been involved in genealogy research her entire life. She is the author of several Legacy QuickGuides on Appalachia, an instructor at Ancestry Academy and Family Tree University, an instructor at several GRIP and SLIG courses, and a columnist for Reminisce Magazine. In 2018 she was the recipient of the Laura G. Prescott Award for Exemplary Service to Professional Genealogy and became a Fellow of the Ohio Genealogical Society. She is a former researcher at Ancestry ProGenealogists. She and her husband are Directors of the FamilySearch Center in Mansfield, Ohio. More information about her is on her web site and ICAPGen .

ABOUT THE CLASS:
MEMORY KEEPERS
There is so much more to FamilySearch than the FamilySearch Family Tree and records research. One of the best things we can leave for our descendants is a plethora of memories.  It has been suggested that this may be presented as a workshop. Perhaps having a room with a good Wifi connection could help attendees follow along. But they won't want to miss any of the slides in this presentation.

11:10 am - 12 Noon MDT:   MARILYN THOMSEN on CITY DIRECTORIES MAY HELP TO RESOLVE FAMILY HISTORY CONUNDRUMS

ABOUT THE MAIN PRESENTATION:
DAR.org is a great genealogical resource! This webinar is about the massive body of data now accessible on The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) website.  The DAR Genealogical Records Committees (GRC) have indexed court records, marriage, death records, collected Bible Records and newly indexed thousands of applications for membership. Join this presentation to add another research methodology to your sleuthing tool set.

ABOUT MARILYN THOMSEN:
Marilyn Thomsen is an enthusiastic teacher and a confessed snoop, who loves helping uncover secrets hiding in family trees.  She served an Internship at Georgia's National Archive Regional Center to complete her BA from BYU (’05) with a Family History focus on US Southern research. Twice she won BYU’s Family History of the Year Award researching and writing about her Pioneer ancestors. She has served as a Church Family History Service Missionary in the Salt Lake Family History Library and in the FamilySearch's Facebook Community.  With her husband, Richard, she has traveled and covered the USA South, Isle of Man, Ireland, Denmark and England.     Since 2019, Marilyn has been the editor of UVTAGG's newsletter, TAGGology. She loves painting watercolor portraits of her grandchildren.

ABOUT THE CLASS:
Good methodology, added to new AI digital indexes and images, make city directories an important source for US research. Marilyn will review where and how to locate city directories online and in repositories.  Compare what is available on the major sites, Ancestry, FamilySearch, and MyHeritage. She will wring information out of city directories through a few good tales of resolved conundrums that might spark resolution of your own family mysteries.

After years on the sidelines, Kathryn began doing family history. Somewhat to her surprise, she discovered that she loved it! Her specialty is helping new family historians find success—and maybe even avoid some of the mistakes she’s made. Kathryn teaches Sunday classes at the BYU Family History Library and presents at other family history events. Her column on family history ran in the Nauvoo Times for about a year and is still available online. In addition, she’s a regular contributor to the FamilySearch blog. Kathryn works as a technical writer and instructional designer with a focus on usability and process improvement. Her current work assignment includes developing training used on mobile devices. Besides family history, she loves uplifting music, thought-provoking books, and fresh raspberries.

11:10 am - 12 Noon MT:   CAROL HILL on CAN YOU SEE MY TREE?  IMPORTS ON FAMILYSEARCH

ABOUT THE MAIN PRESENTATION AND MICHAEL L. STRAUSS, AG::
INFLUENZA:  THE TWENTIETH CENTURY'S DEADLIEST PANDEMIC
In 1918, with the war raging in Europe, a silent deadly killer traveled with the soldiers from the United States over to the war zones in France. Considered America’s deadliest epidemic, it killed more people here than the soldiers that lost their lives fighting. As quickly as the virus spread it disappeared by early 1919. Many genealogical and historical records document our ancestors who died or survived this terrible period of our history.

MICHAEL L. STRAUSS, AG, is a nationally recognized genealogical researcher and speaker. He is a native of Pennsylvania and a resident of Utah and works as a Research Manager with Ancestry. Michael has a BA in History and is planning on getting additional degrees. He is a United States Coast Guard veteran, a licensed Private Investigator, and is certified to testify as an expert witness in courts in many U.S. states. He is also a faculty member of SLIG, GRIP, and IGHR, genealogy course programs across the U.S., where he is the coordinator for the military history courses taught.

ABOUT THE CLASS AND CAROL HILL:
CAN YOU SEE MY TREE?  IMPORTS ON FAMILYSEARCH
Did you know that you can upload GEDCOM files to FamilySearch? Carol will be showing how you upload your file to the Pedigree Resource File, how others can view the uploaded tree, and how you can add information to FamilySearch the correct way.

CAROL HILL received her bachelor's degree in Family History from BYU in 2003, and has been helping others with their family history since then.  She is currently serving a FamilySearch support mission and serving as a YSA stake family history consultant. She creates Family History YouTube videos to help others understand different features of FamilySearch, and other genealogy sites as well. She loves her 6 children, 31 grandchildren, and wonderful husband.

ABOUT THE CLASS by SCOTT HILL
Family History Escape is a virtual escape room, but rather than working to escape from a room, you are working to help deceased individuals escape from Spirit Prison by discovering their Family History.  Each episode tells the story of an actual deceased individual and systematically leads you on a journey to find historical records to learn more about their life.  Each episode is designed as a fun way to help you learn about different aspects of Family History, i.e. different types of Family History records. The app can be used if you are just learning Family History or are more experienced with Family History.

ABOUT MARIE ALEXANDER:
Marie Alexander was shown the love of family history by her parents and grandparents since she was a child. This love has continued throughout her life.  She and her husband, Denton, have eight children, twenty-six grandchildren, and one great grand-daughter.  With her husband, she has served at the Lindon Shared Stakes FamilySearch Center for over seventeen years.  She has served for four years as a FamilySearch Support Missionary.

ABOUT SCOTT HILL:
Scott Hill is a retired Chemical Engineer.  He enjoys doing family history and especially loves the programming side of it.  His "This is Family" app is on the Solutions Gallery on FamilySearch. This app is great for helping young children learn about their ancestors by creating an avatar for each of them. You can also find his "Temples In Color" app on the IOS App store. He has 6 children and 31 grandkids.

ABOUT LAURIE CASTILLO:

1st VP of Utah Valley Technology and Genealogy Group; Former VP, Exec Sec and Board Member, Utah Genealogical Association; BYU FH Library consultant, teacher 28+ years; Professional researcher, writer 30+ years; Presenter: RootsTech 2016-2020, BYU FH Conference 2014-2019, BYU Education Week 2016-2017; Former Red Cross Instructor, Girl Scout Troop Leader and Chihuahua breeder; Interests include: history, mystery, geography and genetics. Research Specialties: Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, New England, Mid-West, South-West and Western Frontier of the U.S.

ABOUT RAYANNE MELICK:

Family history is Rayanne's passion! Her particular interest is Eastern European history and research, which initially started because of the crazy family surnames on her paternal lines. However, she loves dabbling in all areas of the world AND helping other people do the same. Rayanne also loves to travel. She is definitely a history nerd and loves to learn what makes other countries tick (probably a product of her degree in psychology and love of people in general)! Rayanne is working her way through an Eastern Europe certificate program just for the fun of it and loving every moment. She is currently a volunteer in the BYU Family History Library, the Utah Valley Technology and Genealogy Group (UVTAGG), and is the registrar for the Foundation for East European Family History Studies (FEEFHS) organization. Last, but not least, Rayanne has the best job in the world...teaching eight little people (grandkids) to recognize and love their ancestors.
