UVTAGG Meeting (Utah Valley Technology and Genealogy Group), Saturday, 09 Nov 2019, 10:00 am - Noon (NOTE THE TIMES), free in-person and online, at the "Red Chapel" of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4056 North Timpview Dr. (650 East), Provo, Utah 84604.
Main presentation: JAMES TANNER on MAKING THE MOST OF YOUR LDS MYHERITAGE ACCOUNT. He will discuss what is on the website and how to access and use it. James has a J.D. Degree from Arizona State University, spent 2 years as an Intelligence Analyst for the U.S. Army, and 39 years as an Arizona trial attorney. He has been interested in doing and teaching family history research for more than 36 years and is an avid blogger of Genealogy's Star , Rejoice, and be exceeding glad , Walking Arizona , and 360 Cities . Additional family history related experiences are: 10 years as a missionary at the Mesa, Arizona FamilySearch Library, three years at the BYU Family History Library and making several genealogy videos on for their YouTube Channel, Chairman of the Board of The Family History Guide Association, three years as an Area Temple and Family History Consultant for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints, member of the Board of Directors of Family History Expos , member of the Board of Directors of the UGA (Utah Genealogical Association), author and co-author of over 25 books on genealogical research, and presenter at Expos and Conferences around the U.S., Canada, and Europe. He previously owned a retail computer business and an Apple Macintosh software company and is a professional photographer. He and his wife, Ann, have 7 children and 34 grandchildren. James and Ann recently returned from a one-year full-time FamilySearch mission as Document Preservation Specialists at the Maryland State Archives in Annapolis, Maryland.
The classes that will follow starting at about 11:10 am are:
(1) Q&A on My Heritage and Other FamilySearch Partners by James Tanner (will be broadcast)
(2) Using Google Earth to Enhance Your Family History by Carol and Scott Hill (will be recorded and posted in a few days on UVTAGG's Facebook page)
(3) Ask an Expert (Personhal Help) by Lee Cox
(4) Video from last month: 50 Websites Every Genealogist Should Know by Gena Philibert-Ortega (This will be the last time this video will be available due to copyright restrictions.)
There will be no Ancestral Quest Class this month.
All meetings of the Group are open to the public with the goal of helping people use technology to further their family and personal history. Anyone can watch the main presentation and a class online on Facebook by clicking on the link on https://www.uvtagg.org/ or on the UVTAGG's Facebook page. NOTE THAT THE MEETING TIMES HAVE CHANGED TO A TWO-HOUR MEETING FORMAT, 10:00 am TO NOON. There will be fewer verbal announcements, so be sure to look at the agenda. The main presentation will be from about 10:05 am to 11:00 am, followed by classes starting about 11:10 am. All meetings are still open to the public, whether members of the Group or not. Members of the group receive via email the monthly newsletter, TAGGology, which contains a wealth of helpful information and they have access to the more than 400 videos of past presentations and classes. Officers are Gerhard Ruf, President; Laurie Castillo, 1st VP; Don Snow, 2nd VP; Don Engstrom, Secretary; Marilyn Thomsen, Newsletter Editor; Rayanne Melick, Finance Officer; Don Engstrom and Bob Standing, Membership Officers; Bruce Merrill and Marie Andersen, Video Librarians; Eileen Phelps, Special Projects Coordinator; Carol Hill, FamilySearch Facebook Coordinator; and Rick Wightman, Chris Stevenson, Brent Nelson, Jerry Castillo, and Rick Klemetson, Webmasters. Several of these will be at the meeting and members can purchase the inexpensive DVDs of past classes. The Group has much to help Temple and Family History Consultants.
