[UVTAGG] Press Release for UVTAGG meeting Saturday morning, 14 Jul 2018, Provo, Utah and online
The next meeting of the UVTAGG (Utah Valley Technology and Genealogy Group) will be on Saturday, 14 Jul 2018 from 9 am to noon in the LDS "Red" Chapel, 4050 North Timpview Dr., Provo, Utah 84604. This is the regular second-Saturday-of-the-month meeting and the main speaker will be James L. Tanner on WHAT AND WHERE ARE THE RECORDS ON FAMILYSEARCH? This will be a discussion of the historical records on FamilySearch, how they get there, and how to find them. James and his wife, Ann, are on Family History missions for the LDS Church in Annapolis, Maryland, so James will be doing this presentation from there. He has a J.D. Degree from Arizona State University, spent 2 years as an Intelligence Analyst for the U.S. Army, and 39 years as an Arizona trial attorney. He has been interested in doing and teaching family history research for more than 36 years and is an avid blogger of Genealogy’s Star , Rejoice, and be exceeding glad , Walking Arizona , and 360 Cities . Additional family history related experiences are: 10 years as a missionary at the Mesa, Arizona FamilySearch Library; three years at the BYU Family History Library and making several genealogy videos on for their YouTube Channel; Chairman of the Board of The Family History Guide Association; three years as an Area Temple and Family History Consultant for the LDS Church; member of the Board of Directors of Family History Expos; member of the Board of Directors of the UGA (Utah Genealogical Association); author and co-author of over 25 books on genealogical research; and presenter at Expos and Conferences around the U.S. and Canada. He previously owned a retail computer business and an Apple Macintosh software company and is a professional photographer. He and his wife, Ann, have 7 children and 34 grandchildren, and the Tanners are currently on a one-year full-time FamilySearch mission as Document Preservation Specialists at the Maryland State Archives in Annapolis, Maryland.

All meetings of UVTAGG are open to the public, whether members of the Group or not. The meetings have something for all levels of family history expertise including youth, those just getting started, seasoned genealogists, and LDS Temple and Family History Consultants. The Group has the goal of helping individuals use technology to further their family history and there are usually 30-40 people attending the monthly meetings in person and more attending via the Internet. To watch the meeting on the Internet go to the website http://uvtagg.org at 9 am the morning of the meeting and click on the link to join with your Facebook account. To watch the class at about 10:35 am, repeat this process. The live presentation and class are open to the public and anyone can sign up to receive emails of the press releases on the blog http://blog.uvtagg.org . The Group is experimenting with a new program of teaching family history classes online during the week that will be open to everyone. The times and topics and how to register to attend these classes online will be announced at this meeting with information also on the website.
Benefits of membership ($15/year) include being able to watch the more than 400 past presentations and classes on the website, receiving the monthly newsletter TAGGology via email, and having access to many genealogy resources through UVTAGG's membership in the Federation of Genealogical Societies. The officers are Gerhard Ruf, President; Laurie Castillo, 1st VP; Don Snow, 2nd VP; Eileen Phelps, Newsletter Editor; Don Engstrom, Membership; Rayanne Melick, Finances; Bruce Merrill and Marie Andersen, Video Library; and Rick Wightman, Chris Stevenson, Brent Nelson, and Rick Klemetson, Webmasters. Several of these will be at the meeting to help with membership and check out or sell to members the inexpensive DVDs of past main presentations and classes. Gift memberships and DVDs make good presents for family history-minded relatives, friends, and Temple and Family History Consultants. Volunteers who help with the organization get reduced rates for membership.
