Next meeting of the UVTAGG (Utah Valley Technology and Genealogy Group) - Saturday, 13 Apr 2019, 9 am to noon, at the "Red Chapel" of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4056 North Timpview Dr. (650 East), Provo, Utah 84604. This is the regular second-Saturday-of-the-month meeting and the main speaker will be Joe Everett on MINING FOR IMAGES: TIPS ON LOCATING DIGITAL RECORDS ON MAJOR WEBSITES AND BEYOND. He will show us how to find digital records that may be hard to find in various database websites. Joe Everett is the Family History, Local History, and Microforms Librarian at the Brigham Young University Harold B. Lee Library in Provo, Utah. He has over twenty-five years experience in the genealogical field at BYU, the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, and Ancestry.com. He earned a B.A. in Russian Language and in Family History/Genealogy from Brigham Young University and a Master of Library Science from Emporia State University, one of the oldest public universities in the State of Kansas. He has served in various library and genealogical associations and has lectured and published articles on U.S. and European family history research, historical geography, and migration. The Group has the goal of helping individuals use technology to further their family history and the meetings have something for everyone, especially Latter-day Saint Temple and Family History Consultants. The meetings are open to the public, whether members of the Group or not, and people can attend in person or online. To watch the meeting streamed live that morning, go to the Group's UVTAGG Facebook page or get the link from the Group's website https://www.uvtagg.org/ . To watch the class streamed live, repeat the process at the start of the class period, usually about !0:40 am. The videos remain on Facebook for free for a month. The Group sometimes teaches free online family history classes and help sessions between the regular meetings for everyone interested. Information about these and how to register will be announced at the meeting, will be in the monthly newsletter TAGGology, and will posted on the website. Benefits of membership ($15/year) include receiving TAGGology via email, having access to the more than 400 past presentations and classes on the website, and having access to many genealogy resources through UVTAGG's membership in the Federation of Genealogical Societies. Several of these will be at the meeting to help with membership and check out or sell to members the inexpensive DVDs of past presentations and classes. Gift memberships and DVDs make good presents for family history-minded relatives, friends, and Temple and Family History Consultants. Volunteers who help with the organization get reduced rates for membership.
